After four days in the Colorado mountains with 250 incredible men of God, I came home renewed, and convicted. My time there reminded me how truly vital prayer and mentorship is for me, for our men, and for the boys. Our attention spans, our stillness, and our quiet time with the Lord are shrinking fast, yet they’re the very things boys need to see modeled in us.
Reclaiming Quiet Time in KOZ
Every KOZ Saturday overflows with outdoor adventure, tools, and laughter. But the most powerful moment often comes in the Sit Spot; that short, silent time when boys and men pause to listen. For some, it’s the only quiet they’ll get all month. This is why prayer and mentorship for boys go hand-in-hand. Pray before every KOZ gathering: over your ground, your team, and the boys who need to show up. Pray for single moms and grandmothers finding the strength to get them there.
Protecting the Ground and the Men Who Serve
When the day ends, pray again. As you read Sit Spot cards and share stories, ask God to shield your hearts from any anger, fear, or shame that tries to follow you home. Spiritual protection is leadership in action.
A Mentor Can Change Everything
I recently read a psychologist’s book about kids in juvenile prison. One insight stopped me cold: the difference between a boy who becomes a murderer and a boy who becomes a foreman or father is often a mentor, someone who says, “You matter.” That’s what KOZ men do every month through prayer and mentorship for boys. You speak life, teach truth, and show them that faith and strength walk together.
Generational Change Starts With You
Even good dads make mistakes. I once forgot to pick up my son from school, he said, “You forgot?” and it broke my heart. Many boys never even have that moment; no dad is coming at all. Your presence as a mentor changes that story. Pray before they come, pray after they leave, and watch God rewrite their future.
KOZ Is Identity
When a boy wears a KOZ hoodie or hat, it’s more than merch, its identity. It says, I belong. Add some KOZ winter gear to your group and let your boys wear that truth proudly.
Regulators, mount up.
