For generations, the model of inviting kids to Sunday school and hoping they would connect with church worked, at least for a while. But for many boys today, that old model is broken. Simply asking a boy to sit in a classroom for an hour on Sunday doesn’t capture his heart. It doesn’t answer his deepest questions about life, faith, and manhood.
At Kids Outdoor Zone (KOZ), we’ve discovered something different: mentoring boys outdoors changes everything.
Why Boys Need a New Way
So many of today’s young men are growing up without strong male role models. They’re raised by moms, grandmothers, or in homes where dad doesn’t show up. The result? Boys are left missing crucial pieces of the puzzle; how to be strong, how to be courageous, how to walk in faith.
KOZ offers a new way: instead of dragging boys into classrooms, we invite them to the outdoors. Around a campfire, on a trail, or while fixing gear, boys experience adventure and mentorship at the same time. This is where the gospel can come alive.
Don’t Forget the Gospel
Mentoring boys isn’t just about teaching them to fish or showing them how to use tools. Those things matter, but the most important piece is sharing Jesus.
As a KOZ leader, you may be the only “Bible” a boy ever sees. When you share your story, how Jesus showed up in your life, how He carried you through struggles, or how you wish you’d known Him as a young man, you give boys more than information. You give them hope.
Before teaching the monthly KOZ scripture, the men spend time in prayer asking Jesus, “What do You want me to share with these boys? How does this verse connect to my story?” That authenticity is what transforms lives.
Men Training Boys Outdoors
Books and podcasts are helpful, but boys don’t just need ideas—they need examples. KOZ brings together multi-generational groups of men and boys who learn, work, and train side by side.
This is discipleship in action:
- Men modeling strength and humility.
- Boys discovering courage and resilience.
- Everyone growing in faith, together.
And it doesn’t happen in a classroom. It happens in backyards, on riverbanks, and around fire pits.
Why KOZ Matters Now More Than Ever
With so much uncertainty in the world, boys need strong men to show them the way. They need mentors who will stand in the gap and lead them into manhood with integrity, faith, and strength.
That’s what KOZ does, and that’s why this ministry is growing across the U.S. and beyond.
