Riots, Politics and the Young Man

Men of Honor,

Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the King. 1 Peter 2:17

I love that scripture. It brings up something inside me, a young warrior spirit, a sense of honor, a desire to do good. I have always felt that way but, alas, I have not always acted that way. Even in my heart where I deeply desire to be one person, I fail miserably too be another.

In First Peter chapter two he talks about how we are to react regarding politics. So much is going on right now and Satan is loving it. If you are a believer, you are given specific direction on how you are to react at times like these. Many of you are giddy over the election and have waited a long time for a lot of the things being done to be done. Many of you believe that our country was on the brink of moral and social collapse. You may be right.

The important thing above all else is how do we portray ourselves as the Christian man we are. How do we act and what do we say in those political conversations or in public forums, especially if you are a KOZ leader. What comes out of our mouths around the campfire, while driving with some boys, while talking to other men when the boys are within earshot matters.

The bible tells us we are to support the president as the head of the country. We are to be the example for the boys. Our tongue can do more damage than our swords. In our righteousness we exclaim the need for all those under us to assume our position. There may be justification in the ideals and thoughts you want to share. You believe you and like-minded others are finally going to get a say in the way things should be. You want to proclaim it from the mountain tops. But think this through.

As men we are charged with training up the next generation. Back in the day the boys were trained under the father. Dad would head out to work the fields and the son would follow as the morning light crept over the horizon. The boys learned watching and with their hands on the plow, rock bar and hammer. The boys followed their uncle into the woods and trained as a hunter. They were sent next door to help farmer Brown milk his cows.

It was in those moments between chores, as they walked, the adult male would share the words of wisdom he was to bestow on the boy. “Money buys everything but good sense.” “Deal with the faults of others as gently as your own.” “Lost time is never found again.”

Statistics show recent protests and rioting includes a large proportion of the fatherless. You did not hear that on the news. Society would have to take a big look at itself if it confessed its failure to the fatherless. The big pink elephant in the room is todays culture, one that does not honor the male role model. The boys are not being trained how to handle themselves. They operate off of the masculine drive. Battle, mission and action but it is misdirected and without honor. I would bet if you had the chance to spend a few days in the woods with most of these young men they would think differently when they emerged. We know what time in the woods can do.

Men, teach and live the message of this scripture and you will be honoring God as living examples to your boys,  after all that is truly what our heart longs for isn’t it?

Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the King. 1 Peter 2:17

God Bless, Mount up.
