The .270 Winchester (or 6.9x64mm) was developed by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1923 and unveiled in 1925 as a chambering for their bolt-action Model 54. The cartridge is based upon the .30-03. When loaded with a bullet that expands rapidly or fragments in tissue, this cartridge delivers devastating terminal performance.
Ok, so reading most of the technical information on ballistics and chambering and more just does not get my interest. Some guys, even KOZ boys, know every detail. They love it, they read it with joy and full attention. Me, my eye’s just gloss over (although I shoot a .270 when rifle hunting).
I know my rifle is dead on, I have made sure it is on target. I always shoot the same kind of ammunition and the same weight. When I shoot it I am confident it will be where the kid with me or myself place the crosshairs. I don’t know the ballistic details, but I know my gun. Now do we always hit the mark, where we wanted it to be, nope. But I go into it knowing there is that chance. If a kid is with me and misses a shot. I am encouraging and try to not let it get them down.
Last week my son told me about a test he took and how he never studied, never even cracked the book. Still he did excellent and his teacher recognized his hard work to him personally. He was flying high. What do you think my one little silly comment was? You know what I said, I said “but what if you had studied.” “Bam” – took the air out of that sail. I totally blew it and that is one of the most common stories coming from wounded men, never meeting their fathers expectations.
My son confronted me on it immediately and I began to ask his forgiveness. I was right, but the application was wrong. How do we do it right? I have to trust that over time, he and I will work through those things. That my time with him will bear fruit. It will never be without a wound or a misstep, we will all have them. But I am after God’s heart to help us here.
The boys you see walking down the street, next door, at church, the ones you know are hurting, the ones you just feel in your heart need mentoring, guess what, they probably do. You don’t have to be trained in therapeutic medicine, you don’t have to be a biblical scholar, you just have to care. You have to know that God has your back, your heart is leading you, and you just pull the trigger.
The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few brothers. Is He calling on you? Are you leading and allowing Him to hit the mark through you. He calls on us, He speaks to us is all types of ways. Are your eyes glossing over or is your heart listening? If you know Jesus, your gun is zeroed in, but you have to pull the trigger.
Godspeed brothers,
